Liv Wimpenny (‘12-’14) is currently a member of both the England and British Lacrosse Teams who, this summer, competed at The World Championships and The World Games in America. The Old Birkonian Society were proud to help support Liv on her journey by offering sponsorship to help fund her attendance, as Lacrosse is an unfunded sport. Liv attended Birkenhead School Sixth Form as a sports scholar as a result of representing England for lacrosse. The British Lacrosse Team compete at The World Games with the new 6-a-side format of the game, which is a small sided, faster version, similar to the rugby 7’s format, which will hopefully lead to inclusion in the 2028 Olympics.
Birkenhead School and Oxton Lacrosse Club coaches, Alison Dunn and Carina Walsh, helped to set Liv on her on the path to success at an early age. Liv said, “From the age of 13, they saw something in me and began inviting me to play senior lacrosse, and then regional lacrosse, which just set me on this trajectory, and they were so supportive along the way.”
Liv continued, “Birkenhead School massively supported me in balancing school life and representing my country throughout Sixth Form. I am eager to give back in any way I can to help inspire the next generation of both Birkenhead Lacrosse Internationals and aspiring athletes in other sports at Birkenhead School.”
